About us

The London Museum of Water & Steam is a family focused Museum that tells the story of London’s water supply, the site, its people and the water pumping engines that helped make London the city it is today.

The role:

Do you have experience engaging and inspiring children and young people?  Are look looking to gain more experience in museums or heritage?

The Museum is looking for a team of Learning Freelancers to help us welcome schools back to the museum. You will work closely with the Museum Director, Front of House Coordinator and Engagement Coordinator to deliver our learning programme to schools and other educational groups.

What we’re looking for:

Learning Facilitators are pivotal to the Museum’s success, by delivering high-quality and engaging learning experiences to schools and other educational organisations.

Successful candidates will love working with children and young people and have experience of delivering learning to people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds. We’re looking for people who are proactive, enthusiastic, and passionate about creating wonder and intrigue for our younger visitors.

Salary:

This is a freelance contact, at a day rate of £150. Successful candidates will need to be able to work a flexible schedule, with the majority of working hours during school hours. There is no guarantee of set days.

Museum Assistant Kickstart Vacancy

Exciting opportunity to join us as a Museum Assistant!

The Museum is looking for a Museum Assistant with a positive attitude and good communication skills to join us thanks to the Kickstart scheme.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys taking on new challenges, and has good people skills. We are a small independent Museum focussed on telling the story of London’s water supply, with the world’s largest collection of stationary steam engines. Every day is different, so our small staff team take on a wide variety of tasks which you could be asked to assist with.

Duties could include welcoming visitors and responding to enquiries, selling tickets and re-stocking the shop, supporting community groups and family visitors and assisting with administrative task.

Hours:

25 hours per week, working 9am to 4pm Thursday to Saturday with extra hours available as needed. This is a fixed term position for 6 months.

Kickstart scheme:

The Kickstart Scheme provides funding to create new jobs for 16 to 24 year olds on Universal Credit who are at risk of long term unemployment.
