Five reasons to visit the Museum this Easter

With various ‘beasts from the East’ finally tamed, it looks like Spring might actually be on its way. To celebrate, the Museum has a packed programme of events to welcome in the new season. Here are just five reasons to visit the Museum this Easter.

1. Our new Electric House Gallery

The long Easter weekend sees the opening of our new Electric House Gallery, which brings right up to date the story of water pumping and supply at Kew Bridge. The Gallery features a brilliantly curated collection of exhibits that chart the adoption of electricity by water companies – from steam-powered generators for lighting through to the eventual replacement of steam power by electricity for water pumping itself. We’ll be running guided tours of the new Gallery at 12.00pm every day over the Easter weekend.

2. The Grand Easter Steam Up

It’s back: four days of bank holiday steam, when we’ll be running all available steam engines, together with our Waterworks Railway, featuring our Wren class engine, Thomas Wicksteed. The weekend will also see the first running this year of our 20ft Hindley & Sons waterwheel, and an outing for our historic Shand Mason steam fire engine.

3. Lots of family fun

We have lots in store for all the family, with new Easter-themed children’s trails and the chance to get crafty and make some bunny ears or an Easter bonnet. Look out, too, for our live chicks who will be hatching in front of our visitors’ eyes. And don’t forget some Easter treats at the Museum café.

4. Let off steam outdoors

Easter is the perfect time to make the most of the Museum grounds. Visit our Courtyard to play in our Splash Zone, ride the Railway, enjoy Spring flowers and tadpoles in our Garden or just run around to let off steam. Bring a picnic, relax and enjoy!

5. Open every day of the school holidays

The Easter fun continues into the two-week school holiday, when we’ll be open every day, with the Railway running at weekends and on Wednesdays.

See you soon.

The Museum will be open 10.00am – 4.00pm every day from 28th March – 15th April. Book online for a 10% discount on entry tickets.
