This Sunday will see the London Museum of Water & Steam Fire Engine Rally.
Among the many fire engines on display in the Museum, we have our Shand Mason steam powered fire engine,, and a Leyland Metz turntable ladder.
Excitingly, this weekend sees the Merryweather Valiant in steam for the first time. Although the concept of Merryweather’s “Valiant” has existed since the 1880s, and originally built to supply drinking water for the Royal Navy, ours dates from 1940, and was built for the Auxiliary Fire Service. Used during World War II to fight fires caused by the Blitz, it is returning to steam for the first time at the Museum. Visitors are in for a real treat!
