Discover the fascinating world of water and steam with tours, talks and hidden gems from our archives. Please book your admission tickets and up to two tours or talks per person online.


Boulton and Watt Tour – Built in 1820, the Boulton and Watt engine was moved to Kew Bridge from the Grand Junction Waterworks Company’s Chelsea works in 1840. Discover more about this fascinating engine from the Boulton and Watt Project Team, including a chance to visit the beam floors, which are currently closed to visitors.

History of the Site Tour – From Old Kew Bridge Waterworks to the London Museum of Water & Steam. Discover more about the history of the site from when it was a fully operational waterworks and pumping station, supplying water to a large section of West London.

Yard Tour – Explore areas of the site usually closed to visitors on our yard tour and learn more about the work of the Old Kew Bridge Waterworks and the London Museum of Water & Steam.

James Watt Talk – From Buttons to Beam Engines: Boulton and Watt’s engine, and where it led. The steam engine developed and marketed by James Watt and Matthew Boulton is the iconic machine of Britain’s industrial revolution. We will place it in the rich setting of the wider world in which it was used, and explore the importance of London Museum of Water and Steam’s own example. With Ben Russell, Curator of Mechanical Engineering at the Science Museum. (Saturday only)

Director’s Talk – Join Liz Power, Director of the Museum, to discover more about the museum, it’s role within our local community and the impact the Covid-19 pandemic has had.

Local Area Tour with Hounslow Heritage Guides – Join the Hounslow Heritage Guides for a fascinating walk around the local area. Discover more about the history of the Old Kew Bridge Waterworks and the local area of Brentford. The walking tour will last between 30 and 45 minutes.
