Other Engines and Artefacts
The museum has on display a large collection of engines and other artefacts associated with the history of delivering water to homes.
The Hindley Waterwheel provides a backdrop to the Splashzone courtyard, demonstrating the use of flowing water to lift well water. A steam railway runs around the outside of the museum buildings giving rides at the weekend, as a homage to the narrow guage railways which were used to transport raw materials at many waterworks sites. Finally at the museum, you will encounter a wide range of artifacts from the history of water pumping including a steam fire engine, the Diesel House and the new Electric House (opening 2018) tracing the story of electric water pumps.
